"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Ephesians 2:10

Our Grade 6 Team

Mrs. Melgaard (6A) is a graduate of Calvin Christian School and MBCI.  She received her Bachelor of Education from The University of Winnipeg.  In 2001, she started at Calvin by taking a 3-month term position when Mr. Vande Kraats took on his role of administrator.  This term was extended into a 6-month term, and then it was made into a permanent position.

MELGAARD
BOOY

Mr. Booy (6A) has had many interesting experiences on his journey to become an educator. He fondly remembers his time at Winkler Bible Camp where he first accepted Christ at the age of 7, eventually becoming a camp counselor there. He has attended Canadian Mennonite University, during which time he accompanied his father on a mission trip to Peru. Here, Mr. Booy tutored students in English and Math, and this experience inspired him to pursue a teaching career.

Mr. Booy has always loved sports and the outdoors, and while at CMU his love of athletics continued, seeing him serve as the captain of the basketball team. He has also worked as a community sports coach with players aged 4-12 in basketball, baseball, and soccer.

Mrs. Wels (6B)

My name is Christy Wels and I grew up in Winnipeg. I have a husband and 2 elementary-aged children who I enjoy spending time with.  Outside of prioritizing family time,  I also have other hobbies. Reading and learning are core to my daily life, and I spend a silly amount of time in my flower garden.

I received my teaching degree from the University of Winnipeg in 2002. And, though I am teaching grade 6 at this point, I’ve also taught various grades at Calvin Christian Collegiate before having children. My life is full of blessings, and having the opportunity to teach at a Christian school is certainly one of them.
